Steve began CrossFit a little over 2 years ago, in August of 2018, after he was starting to lose motivation with his normal workout routine, and wanted something different. He’s really a big fan of all the full body movements like; snatches, clean and jerks, burpees, and T2B. Feeling like you’re getting your entire body worked at once seems very efficient. Some of the more technical gymnastics stuff does give Steve trouble, but he’s working on his double under rhythm and consistency with T2B.
Steve likes to keep moving outside the gym by walking around hallways at school, doing projects when the weather is nice, or going on walks and brewery bike rides with his wife Heather. Doing CrossFit helps him be able to stay active in his life without worrying if he’ll be able to keep up as he gets older, but how it helps him focus mentally is throughout his day is probably the more consistent thing. Steve usually makes it in to workout at the very beginning of the day, and having that physical activity in the morning really helps start the day without any pre-loaded stress so he can focus on that days tasks.
There’s been a few new things in the workouts this past month, and the notable one for Steve was the split squats we did for a finisher. These weren’t a heavy lift, but he did notice how they challenged his balance and stability being mostly on one leg. It’s the consistent challenges like this that Steve keeps coming back for every week. Being able to see what’s in store for the week lets him set challenges and goals to stay motivated.
